The basics
What is IPTV — and when is it legal?
IPTV delivers television as a stream of data over the Internet Protocol instead of through antenna, cable or satellite. Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt and Zattoo use the technology themselves. It is legal; what counts is whether the provider holds the broadcasting rights for its channels.
The Copyright Act distinguishes viewers from providers: operating or reselling channels without a licence is punishable, while the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IGE) treats private streaming as permitted. Uploading or passing on access stays prohibited.
- Legal and free: the SRG players (Play SRF, Play RTS, Play RSI) and Zattoo Free with 292 channels, limited to 10 hours per month on smart TV
- Unlawful: running or reselling unlicensed access, up to five years in custody when done for commercial gain
- Remember: player apps and devices are never the problem — the source decides

Checking a provider
Check an IPTV provider in five minutes
These five points separate most reliable offers from the doubtful ones — before a single franc is paid.
- 1An imprint with company name, address and registration number; Swiss companies can be looked up in Zefix
- 2A channel list you can see before paying
- 3A final price in CHF, with clear term and cancellation
- 4Payment by card or invoice, not crypto or gift codes only
- 5Support through an official channel, not just a messenger
How we work
Why trust this guide?
- 01
Sources, not assertions
Statute references come from Fedlex, statements on the legal position from the IGE, features and channel counts from the providers' own pages — with the date.
- 02
Criteria, not rankings
A list of names would be out of date within weeks. The guides explain how to check any provider yourself instead.
- 03
Disclosure
The operator of this website also sells its own IPTV plans (see Pricing). They are not part of the comparisons, but the checking criteria expressly apply to them as well. Not legal advice.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is IPTV legal in Switzerland?
The technology is legal and used by Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt and Zattoo. A service becomes unlawful only if it distributes channels without holding the rights. This is general information, not legal advice.
How much does IPTV cost in Switzerland?
With the operators TV is usually part of the internet or mobile subscription. Zattoo's Premium and Ultimate start with 30 free days (state: October 2026). The pricing page of this guide shows the operator's plans.
How do I spot a reliable IPTV provider?
A full imprint with company name and registration number, final prices in CHF, a channel list you can see, payment by card or invoice and reachable support. Warning signs are thousands of channels for a few francs, crypto-only payment and sales through messaging groups.
Is there free and legal IPTV?
Within limits: the SRG players with live streams and catch-up, advertising-funded live streams and the free tiers of licensed services such as Zattoo Free. Free pay TV such as Sky or DAZN does not exist.
Do I need a special box or app?
No. A smart TV, a streaming stick or a mobile device with the provider's app is usually enough. Apps and devices are neutral — what matters is the service you use.
Is this guide independent?
The operator of this website also sells its own IPTV plans (see Pricing). The guides publish no league table, back their statements with primary sources and expressly apply the checking criteria to the operator's own offer as well.
